About the Montgomery County SPCA

What We Do

Adoption

There are many animals at each of our shelter facilities that need new homes. Every effort is made by the staff to provide assistance and background information on the animals. All the animals available for adoption have been wormed and inoculated against distemper and rabies. Pets will also be neutered or spayed prior to going to a new home. All adopted animals are given two weeks of free veterinary coverage by our staff veterinarians for any kennel related ailments. See Adoption Policy and Application Policy.

Animal Cruelty Investigations

Our humane society police officers investigate all reports of animal abuse and neglect within Montgomery County. They advise pet owners on the law, make orders for changes in care, issue formal warnings for violations of the law, and issue citations for cruelty to animals. If you see a case of cruelty to animals call our offices. Conshohocken at 610-825-0111, Perkiomenville at 610754-7822, or Abington at 215-886-8802

Education

The humane educator presents programs on many topics concerning animals to schools, clubs, and service organizations. Pet visits to health care facilities can also be scheduled by contacting the humane educator at the Conshohocken office.

Lost Animals

The Montgomery County S.P.C.A. shelters lost dogs and cats brought in by local police, animal control officers, and the public. They are kept in the shelter for a stray hold period of one week and every effort is made to contact the animal's owner. Unclaimed lost animals are made available for adoption. See Stray Animal Policy (Lost Pets), Return to Owner Policy and Reporting Lost or Found Animals Policy.

Rescues

Each facility has ambulances for the purpose of rescuing stray animals that are injured or in distress and for assisting the police. This service is available 24-hours a day. Call Conshohocken (24-hours) at 610-825-0111, Perkiomenville (9am-4pm) at 610-754-7822, and Abington (9am-4pm Monday-Friday) at 215-886-8802 to report an injured animal.

Spay and Neuter Program

In an effort to combat the serious problem of pet overpopulation, it is both the policy of the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. and the law in Pennsylvania to spay or neuter all animals that are adopted.

There is no additional fee for surgery.
