Thank You for Considering Adoption!
Adoption Application Process
We’ve made improvements to our adoption process! When you’re ready to apply, you can either submit an application directly from a specific animal’s profile or complete a general application for the species you’re interested in.
To view our currently available animals, please visit our Adoption page for categorized listings. We also encourage you to carefully review our Adoption Contract prior to submitting your application.
How to Apply
If you already know which pet you’d like to adopt, simply visit their profile and click the “Apply for Adoption” button to submit your application for that animal.
If you prefer, you can complete a species-specific adoption application and tell us the name of the animal you’re interested in within the form.
- Dog Adoptions
- Cat Adoptions
- Small Mammal Adoptions
- Rabbit Adoptions
- Barnyard Animal Adoptions
- Equine Adoptions
Please submit a separate application for each animal you are interested in. We are only able to select one applicant per pet, and if you are not selected, it likely means there were several strong applications. We encourage you to apply again if you find another animal who may be a great fit for your home.
If you would like to check on the status of your application, please contact the facility where the animal is located.

Adoption Contract
When adopting a pet from the SPCA, you must review, complete and sign an Adoption Contract. This contract will be provided upon completion of the adoption process, on location when the adopted animal is to be picked up. The contract (in part) reads as follows:
I, the undersigned adopter, understand and agree to the following:- I am 18 years of age or older.
- I understand that if this animal I am adopting has a diagnosed medical condition or fault, that I accept full responsibility for further management, training, or treatment. If this pet has recently had surgery, I will follow the post-surgery instructions provided to me at adoption. I have been made aware of these additional care instructions, if applicable.
- I may return the animal to the MCSPCA for any reason. I understand that this may require an appointment to do so.
- I understand the importance of providing regular veterinary care for my new animal and have been encouraged to establish my new animal with a regular veterinarian. I understand that all vaccinations, deworming, medications, or medical treatment post adoption will be my financial responsibility.
- I have reviewed all medical history with the adoption staff and have asked questions that I may have. I understand that to the knowledge of the MCSPCA the animal I am adopting is assumed to be healthy unless otherwise noted and/or discussed. I understand sometimes medical issues come up after adoption and I accept financial responsibility for all post adoption veterinary cost/care. I understand that the MCSPCA does not reimburse for medical bills. The MCSPCA may elect to treat kennel related ailments (upper respiratory infections or kennel cough) free of charge at their discretion for a period of two weeks post adoption.
- I understand that my new animal has a microchip (dogs and cats only). Microchips placed by MCSPCA will register to my name and with the address and contact information I have provided. Microchips placed prior to arriving at the MCSPCA will need to be registered by the adopter directly. Fees associated with registration of the microchip will be at adopter's expense. I will update the MCSPCA with any changes to address/or contact information relevant to the ownership of this animal.
- I will provide this animal with necessary sustenance, clean drinking water, necessary medical attention, proper shelter, protection from the weather, humane care, clean conditions, and protect him/her from harm.
- I will comply with all applicable laws including vaccination, registration, identification and licensing requirements, leash laws, and noise ordinances.
- I agree to have the animal spayed or neutered by the MCSPCA if not completed prior to adoption.
- I understand and agree that the MCSPCA makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, or safety of the animal. I hereby accept the animal as is, assume all risks and responsibilities associated with the ownership of the animal, including bites, and I hereby fully and completely release, indemnify and hold harmless the Montgomery County SPCA, its directors, officers, volunteers, and employees from any claim, cause of action, or liability of any sort or nature, whether known or unknown, directly or indirectly arising out of or in connection with the adoption, care, or ownership, maintenance, temperament or condition of the animal. THIS RELEASE AND DUTY TO INDEMNIFY SPECIFICALLY APPLIES TO ANY CLAIMS ASSERTED AGAINST THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SPCA THAT ALLEGE ANY ACT OF NEGLIGENCE BY THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SPCA AND ANY CLAIM THAT ALLEGES THAT THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SPCA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS.
